3 tips for planning a 2021 wedding

Planning your wedding for 2021? I’m guessing you’re already anticipating the challenges.

I caught up with Lousie Harris from Dynamic Weddings , a wedding planner in Cairns; servicing Cairns to Mossman to chat about her tips for planning a wedding for 2021.

I’ve always been involved in events and have been a wedding planner for over 11 years. I help a mixture of local, interstate and international clients that come to the FNQ region to say their “I do’s.”

I really love being part of the couple’s day - being with them from the beginning, helping them through their wedding planning, offering advice and guidance through their wedding journey, bringing it all together, and seeing them enjoy their wedding day stress free is very rewarding.

I remember the week Australia went into lock down. It was very crazy with very distraught couples calling and emailing, upset that their planned weddings were put on hold or cancelled altogether. We got into action and started to move those weddings that did not want to be cancelled to a new date and made sure their current suppliers were still available for the new date. It was a very stressful time for us and the couples.

As a business owner, it was very upsetting to see a business you had built up for 11 years lose its income and financial security, not knowing when our wedding season would kick back up again.

But now most of our 2020 weddings have moved to 2021, so essentially we are going to have 2 wedding seasons in one year. And that is going to have it’s challenges.

Here are my tips for those planning a 2021 wedding.

  1. Book in early! Next year is filling up fast, so the sooner you start planning the better.
  2. Be flexible with your dates. You don’t always have to get married on a Saturday and being flexible means you will have more variety and choices of your favourite supplier, such as photographers and florists.
  3. If you are booking during Covid then just go with the flow. Your wedding planner will help you through all of the changes if they occur and remember you are getting married to the love of your life - and that is the most important thing!
